Lately, I’ve been deep in the flow of creating for an art call focused on surface pattern design for wallpaper—a chance to bring art into everyday spaces in a meaningful and lasting way. There’s something beautiful about knowing your designs might become part of someone’s home, their daily view, their calm.
Inspiration came from the soft, ordinary moments that often go unnoticed: the flicker of shadows across a sidewalk, the gentle dance of wildflowers in the breeze,
the hush of wind moving through leaves…
These small, poetic details have a way of settling into my sketchbook and slowly becoming something more. Nature has always been my favorite collaborator -offering up quiet patterns and gentle rhythms to echo in my work.
One of the most encouraging parts of this process has been working alongside a small, supportive group of artists- Creative Community with Melissa Johnson. Sharing progress, offering feedback, and just checking in on each other’s creative flow has made all the difference. Every kind word, every fresh pair of eyes has helped shape the final piece. Art isn’t just about creating something beautiful—it’s also about sharing, evolving, and being seen.
And now—it’s complete.
The last detail placed, the final pattern aligned, and the design quietly clicked into place.
The same sunlight that lit my sketchbook during walks now spills softly across my desk, catching the edge of a finished design.
Some days end in a flurry of revisions -others, like this one, close gently, with a quiet kind of satisfaction.
I’m grateful for the steady rhythm of the work, the wind-whispered inspiration, the caffeine-fueled edits, and that moment when it all simply comes together.
It’s out of my hands now, sent off to an exciting art call with Loomwell Home Goods. But whether it’s chosen or not, the real reward has already arrived: showing up, staying present, and finishing with heart.
Each submission, each creative stretch, builds your portfolio and strengthens your voice. Art calls aren’t just about acceptance—they’re about showing up, experimenting, evolving. There’s something special about creating with a goal in mind, especially when it pushes you to dig a little deeper, polish a little more, and trust your instincts. These little milestones—finished pieces, brave submissions—are how we grow.
Here’s to finding art in the wild, to following the call and to building something beautiful, one pattern at a time.
